The Truckers Helper trucking software was originally written by John Ewing when and his wife began trucking for their own use in checking their logs and keeping records for their weekly trip reports. As they moved up and became owner/operators they found that they also needed to keep track of truck maintenance as well as keep better records on their new trucking business. So the program was expanded to include these features also and the log compliance checker was expanded into a full log program they could use to check and keep their logs in. As other drivers and owner/operators saw the program they asked if they could get a copy and soon the program was catching on and was growing based on the suggestions of other users. In 1996 John & Sheila got out of their truck and decided to devote full time to developing The Truckers Helper trucking software. The first commercial version of the program was released and aimed strictly at drivers and owner/operators. Then as the established users began to grow their own businesses they asked for additional features and the billing, dispatch, payroll, pallet and trailer trackers and other features were added to the program. These additions where made based on customer demand and were designed to meet the needs of the trucking companies that were using the program. The Truckers Helper trucking software was designed by the drivers, owner/operators and small companies that used it not by a programmer who had no idea what the real world of trucking is like. With his own experience as a driver and owner/operator, John was able to bring together the requests of these drivers, owner/operators and small trucking companies into a trucking software program that meet the needs of a diverse group of truckers and was able to offer the program at a price they could afford.
